Carrie and Charlie are the only couple who ended up staying on my calendar for 2020. While their Plan A didn’t happen, these two were determined to get married despite the daunting task of planning a wedding in the middle of a pandemic. It made me so happy to be able to photograph their wedding because I have missed documenting weddings so much. And, it was clear to me at the end of the day that these two pressed on because they do not let much get in their way of accomplishing something once they have their mind set on doing it. They are adventure seekers, smart, thoughtful and head over heels in love. I don’t normally share insights that couples share with me before their wedding day but I asked their permission to share the below bit. It touched me so much and made me even more excited for their day to arrive and I thought by sharing it might help other couples planning a wedding during this pandemic. It is truly inspirational but then again, so is this couple. Congrats Carrie and Charlie! May the best be yet to come!
“Planning a COVID wedding has meant that our vision for our day has been constantly evolving. Within the space of a few short months, we had to scrap our original wedding Plan A almost entirely and rebuild a wedding Plan B that felt safe and responsible for us and our loved ones. This process, as challenging as it was, compelled us to focus on what we truly prioritized. To us, a wedding isn’t about a big party, a packed dance floor, or a full weekend of festivities. As nice as those elements would have been, it was surprisingly easy to let them go. Rather, what we cared about most was accommodating as many of our friends and family as safely possible to witness the ceremony of our commitment to each other, as we step through the threshold into a new phase of our lives. When we daydream about our upcoming wedding, we imagine hugging our families after a grueling few months of social distancing, having food and music that we love, walking down the aisle hand in hand together, and feeling the support of our close community– even if they are wearing masks. Furthermore, having a COVID wedding is in many ways fitting with our views of marriage. These last few months have required flexibility, surmounting challenges as a team, making personal sacrifices in order to reach a compromise, having tough conversations and communicating respectfully and honestly, plodding forward when we felt stuck, and maintaining a positive attitude. While we dearly miss our friends and family members who cannot attend, a more intimate gathering suits our natures. We were always determined to create a wedding that was authentic to us, our interests, and our values, and COVID has brought these to the fore even more strongly.” C + C
