The other day I had the opportunity to spend the morning with this family documenting their newly expanded family. Although it took big brother a little time to warm up to me, I eventually managed to get a few sweet smiles from him. It can be challenging photographing older siblings when you’re also there to photograph the baby. You want them to feel just as special and that they are also the center of attention. Especially since their world has changed and all of a sudden the focus becomes the baby. We started early in the morning when everyone was fresh (if that is even possible when you have a two year old and newborn!) and made the first half of the session all about big brother. Once we got a few portraits with him out of the way, he was whisked away to preschool so we could focus on the newborn photos. This worked out really well because the baby was so alert during the first half and then fell into a deep sleep so we could get some of those precious sleeping baby shots. It was great photographing this family and I hope I get the opportunity to do it again as the kiddos get bigger!
