Quechee Balloon Festival
Each year the town of Quechee, Vermont holds it’s Annual Balloon Festival on Father’s Day Weekend. We’ve always wanted to go but have never seemed to be able to make it. Sadly, we found out earlier in the week that Alan would need to be overseas for a meeting that was taking place on Sunday. Yes, Father’s Day. Total bummer for all of us. This is the downside of his work, working internationally in different time zones with different holidays than the US. And to top it off, he had to leave Friday night to get there due to flights being sold out. He really wanted to go to the Festival this year so I decided to take the girls (Tanner was working) for Alan in his absence. So I called a friend and we schemed a plan to pack a picnic dinner and meet at a designated location. At first, we thought we had picked a bad spot but it ended up being THE PERFECT location to capture the magic. What a beautiful sight to see these huge, colorful balloons right above us. Next year, will be such a treat to have Alan with us and I can’t wait to hopefully make this an annual event for our family.
The Balloon Festival happens all weekend long starting on Friday night with live music throughout. There are “glows” that happen at 6:00 pm Friday, 6:00 am Saturday and Sunday as well as 6:00 pm Saturday, which is the one we went to. I have heard that the dawn glows are amazing so maybe we can make that happen next year.
I’m thinking about submitting one of the photos to a contest they have. I’m curious to hear which one you’d submit. Feel free to comment below.
